IP Geolocation

Look up location, ISP, and ASN for any IP address.

Results show approximate location. VPN, proxy, and CDN services may affect accuracy.

This tool uses a server-side service for processing; uploaded files or requests are not kept for long-term storage.

About

Every device that connects to the internet is assigned a public IP address by its ISP. This address can reveal approximate geographic location — typically accurate to city level, sometimes more precise for mobile connections. It also identifies the ISP, hosting provider, or VPN service assigned to that IP range.

IP geolocation works by matching IP ranges against databases maintained by regional internet registries (RIPE, ARIN, APNIC) and enriched by ISPs. Accuracy varies: ISP headquarters locations can differ from actual user location, especially with mobile carriers that centralize routing. Corporate VPNs and cloud hosting IPs resolve to data center locations, not employee locations. This is why checking a VPN IP tells you where the VPN server is, not where you physically are — which is exactly how you verify a VPN is routing correctly.

Common uses: verifying your VPN exit location, debugging geo-restricted content issues, identifying which ISP or hosting provider owns an IP in your server logs, and quick sanity checks on suspicious traffic sources.

How it works

  1. 1Open IP Geolocation and choose your file or enter the required input.
  2. 2Check the settings and start the process.
  3. 3The tool creates the result with temporary server-side processing.
  4. 4Download the output or copy the result when it is ready.

FAQ

How accurate is IP geolocation?
City-level accuracy for most residential broadband IPs. Country-level is nearly always correct. Exact street address is not possible — IP geolocation is not GPS. Mobile carrier IPs are often less precise because carriers route through regional hubs.
Why does my IP show a different city than where I am?
ISPs route traffic through regional hubs. Your IP may be registered to your ISP's nearest routing center, not your physical location. This is normal and not an error — it reflects network topology, not your address.
Can I look up IPv6 addresses?
Yes. IPv6 geolocation works the same way but database coverage may be less complete for some regions since global IPv6 adoption is still growing.
Why does a VPN IP show a data center location?
VPN providers use servers in data centers — the geolocation returns the data center's registered location, not yours. This is the correct behavior and how you verify your VPN is routing traffic through the right server.
Is the IP address I look up stored anywhere?
The IP is sent to ip-api.com to perform the lookup. Omnvert itself does not store the queried IP address. Refer to ip-api.com's privacy policy for their data retention practices.
